What is it ?

Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein produced by the Botulinum bacteria which is used safely in the upper part of the face to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused by overuse of facial muscles which causes stretching and contraction of the overlying skin leading to lines be present in the skin even when the muscles are not contracted.

How does it work?

The Botulinum protein relaxes the facial muscles into which it is administered. This causes the overlying facial skin to relax and produces a smoothening affect to forehead wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet. This can lead to a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

How are Botulinum protein administered?

This treatment involves small amounts of the protein being injected into the desired area using a syringe with a very fine needle. You may experience a small to moderate amount of pain which reduces very quickly once the treatment is finished although many clients have said that the pain if any is very mild.

After treatment

You will be able to resume daily activities after the treatment but must refrain from alcohol consumption and vigorous exercise for 24hrs and avoid other treatments like facials for a week. The desired aesthetic effects should start to appear within two weeks, can last between 3-5 months and depends directly on the physiology of the patient. For treatment of excessive sweating the treatment can last 9-12 months.

Side effects

The injection site may occasionally be sore or bruised and very rarely the Botulinum protein may migrate to neighbouring muscle groups causing unwanted muscle relaxation however this is only temporary.
